I AM from Heaven

written by Pastor Lawrence Neisent

Jesus is all about loving, reaching and rescuing people. The more we know Jesus the more we are about our heavenly assignment of loving, reaching and rescuing people.

John 6:36-41 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." At this the Jews began to grumble about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven."

Jesus didn’t come to do his will but the will of God who sent him. This is about loving those who God has entrusted to our care. As Jesus says, “that I shall lose none of all that he has given me.” Jesus is about the assignment from heaven in all of our lives to love, reach and rescue people.

He taught how if we follow he’ll make us fishers of men. If we’re not fishing we may not be following.

Jer 16:14 “…I will restore…I am going to send for many fishermen,” declares the LORD, “and they will fish for them; and afterwards I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them..." NAS

Ben Cooley shared with us a very moving cause last week. If you’re not careful you start thinking Ben is about conquering human trafficking. Ben is about Jesus! Don’t get hung up on the bread. Ben is about God’s plan to rescue all humanity through Jesus and His church!

The local church is where he discovered his life assignment. No greater cause than the cause of Christ and Jesus has chosen the church as his primary vehicle to raise up and release God’s assignments in the earth.

People aren’t misguided if they don’t carry your cause the way you do. Your cross fits your shoulder! We had a family in our church who really struggled financially. We actually gave them a car one Sunday that we had filled with gas and with groceries for their family. Just one year later they left the church saying we just didn’t care about people in need.

God’s way of getting it all done is giving everybody a different burden and passion. We don’t have to destroy others to validate ourselves.

At the core of any cause from heaven is the love of Jesus Christ.

Fishing in Jesus’ day wasn’t done by bait on a hook. They used nets. Please don’t let your love have a hook. Our job is to love people not to change them.

Every one of us is called by God to make disciples! Making disciples is exposing people to love of Jesus Christ through your surrendered available life. This is not an institutional mandate. This is an individual mandate!

Who has God entrusted to your care? A life of service to Jesus is a life that looks a lot like his. Everywhere he went people experienced the transforming love of God. Jesus was willing to be inconvenienced for the sake of others

People ministering to people change the world.
