WHEN YOU PRAY: Obey

Don't ask God to guide your footsteps, if you're not willing to move your feet. God’s plan for your life involves making a difference in the lives of others!

Isaiah 61:1-4 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners... They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. NIV

Isaiah was a mighty man of God but it wasn’t him that would rebuild ancient ruins, restore devastation and renew ruins that had suffered for generations.
99% of the people who walk into church buildings this weekend will not stand before the congregation preaching like Isaiah did.

That’s what makes this text so important!

Notice that according to Isaiah 61, it’s the brokenhearted, the poor, the captives and the prisoners in darkness who are the ones that are raised up to rebuild. They are the ones who restore ruins that have been devastated for generations not Isaiah the preacher!

When God’s giant killers believe for any reason they are less significant than someone else they become disempowered warriors in the earth.

Your life assignment is significant! Jesus didn’t come so we could have and enjoy vacation! He came that we could have and enjoy life!

God never intended for Church to be a place we come for a few hours a week to get refreshed so that we can survive another week of the mundane.

What God did for us he asks us to do for others. God put his blessing in you so bless other people! God put his strength in you so strengthen other people! God put his encouragement in you so encourage other people!

God wants to increase our faith to enlarge our territory. We normally just want God to enlarge our territory. Preparation is important. It’s easier to obtain than it is to maintain and if you don’t believe this then you’ve never been married. Preparation to obtain is vital to being able to successfully maintain.

For God to promote us he must prepare us and his preparation is painful.

John 12:24-25 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. NIV

Unless the seed dies there can be no life. Not a question of if there is life in seed. The question is will it die? To die is to die to ourselves. We lay our desires and needs aside for the sake of others.

We want to Invite you to have Influence by being Involved as we Invest together in the next generation.

The area behind our coffee bar in our new building is the unfinished nursery and toddler area Destiny Kids Jr. and offices. We are introducing an idea to have this area finished out in one year.

The cost is $400k and here is the plan: If we have 400 people commit to $85/month above their tithes we will have raised $400k in just one year. Our desire is for everybody to be able to participate, according to their ability, as a family expression of investing together in the next generation. This means some will give less than this amount and some will give more each month.

Already we have commitments from some of our leaders for $500/mo in addition to their tithes and other offerings. If people are able to do so giving their donation right up front enables us to get started immediately so we are making progress as the money continues to come in.

Whatever you feel you can do as you respond to God’s direction is the key. Paul makes it very clear in Scripture how our giving should be a matter of obedience from the heart:

2 Cor 9:7-11 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work…You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion… NIV

Let’s all simply pray and obey. That has always been the way God expands His work in the earth. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Let’s devote ourselves to the purposes of God together!

ICEBREAKER: The reality is that God has brought us all together. What has God done in your life to get you in this meeting with a hunger for more of what he has in store?

We must not ask God to guide our footsteps, if we’re not willing to move our feet.

God’s plan for our lives involves making a difference in the lives of others!

They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. NIV

Notice: It’s the brokenhearted, the poor, the captives & the prisoners who are the ones that are raised up to restore devastation, not the preacher. Isaiah was anointed to proclaim hope to the hopeless. Then those who were hopeless rose from the ashes of their devastated lives to effectively help others find this same hope!

What God did for us he asks us to do for others.

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

·       God put his blessing of strength and encouragement in your life! How have you translated that into blessing someone else recently?

·       What is something you can do for someone this next week? Share specifically what and who.

God wants to increase our faith to enlarge our territory. We normally just want God to enlarge our territory. Preparation is important. For God to promote us he must prepare us and his preparation can be painful at times.

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

·       Share a time God was increasing your faith and preparing you for something deeper or something more.

It’s never a question of if there is life in the seed. The question is will it die? To die is to die to ourselves laying our desires and needs aside for the sake of others.

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

·       On a scale of 1-10, where do you rate your ability to die to self daily?

·       What can you do personally this week to increase that number?

One thing we can all do is devote ourselves to sacrificially giving to help prepare the next generation = ALL IN FOR THE NEXT GEN.

Giving financially consistently helps us come back routinely to the importance of considering needs beyond our own.

Let’s all prayerfully consider how we can honor the Lord in our giving with our tithes and then offerings above our tithes to help finish the space in our building for the kids.

Paul was specifically encouraging the Corinthian church in pledges they were making to expand God’s work in the earth in 2 Corinthians 9.

2 COR. 9:5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift, not as one grudgingly given. NIV

2 COR. 9:7-11 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work…You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion… NIV

Clearly, our giving should be a matter of obedience from the heart. Let’s all simply pray and obey.
