WHEN YOU PRAY: Write It Down

God’s will doesn’t just happen. The idea of predestination can be very confusing but make no mistake, it is not God’s will that any should perish but many do. We are part of God’s plan to bring God’s Kingdom to this earth!

James 4:2 “…You do not have because you do not ask God.” NIV

Clearly there are some things you will not have if you do not pray. Clearly there are some things God will not do if we do not pray. Again - We are part of God’s plan to bring God’s Kingdom to this earth!

God is writing a story and we have an amazing assignment from God as co-writers with Him.

Rom 8:17 (As God’s children we are) heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.... NIV

Prayer is having a voice that makes a difference and using it to do so. There are some things that God wants to accomplish in this world that will not be accomplished if we do not pray.

Matt 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." NIV

God has given us a very important role. We unlock doors that allow people to have access into his kingdom.
We lock doors to keep the enemy out!

James 4:2 “…You do not have because you do not ask God.” NIV

There are some things that God wants to accomplish in this world that will not be accomplished if we do not pray. Leonard Ravenhill said, “Five minutes inside eternity and we will wish that we had sacrificed more, wept more, grieved more, loved and prayed more, and given more.”

So the big question I want to look at right now is how to effectively pray. Tracy’s father, Gene, shared his prayer list with me one time. As he showed me his list I perceived almost a sense of his feeling inadequate explaining the humble words he would speak. He would pray a very simple prayer over each person on his list asking God to bless and protect everybody he was praying for daily.

The next morning I got up early and went out to one of my favorite prayer spots to read, pray and seek the Lord. As I was there in that spot I sensed God’s speaking to me about how powerful Gene’s prayers truly were. As I listened I even felt the Lord was saying Gene was up and praying through his list. God directed me to go back to the house and tell him that I was suddenly aware he was praying while I was at my prayer spot. As I walked in and shared that I felt God was pleased with what he was going and that he was having a greater impact than he realized tears filled his eyes.

Some people have outrageous expressions of emotion when they pray to receive Christ. Some people simply pray a sincere prayer. Neither is more effective than the other. No matter what the expression the issue is that you believe in your heart and make a sound with your voice. When you do this with your heart engaged heaven is unlocked in your life. It was there the whole time but your response unlocked what God purposed to exist in your world. This is how we are to continue to live in Christ unlocking what already exists to our world.

Col 2:6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him NIV.

What are you praying about and believing for in your life, marriage, family, household, workplace, classroom etc?
Our focus for this season has been to do the following five things. Below that you will find various lists to consider as you work through developing your own lists to pray daily as you focus in on seeking God and releasing his Kingdom through your surrendered available life.

GP4RL:
    1.    Pray daily, asking the Holy Spirit for awareness to his promptings
    2.    Select your favorite worship song
    3.    Play song with prayer list in hand
    4.    Practice the promptings
    5.    Fast & pray weekly

ICEBREAKER: If you could ask God to change one problem in the world today, what would you like him to change?

God’s will doesn’t just happen. We are part of God’s plan to bring God’s Kingdom to this earth!

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1.   Share a story about a time when you spoke up about something and were able to make an impact.

2.   How has your prayer life been changing since we started the prayer strategy focus?

Some people have outrageous expressions of emotion when they pray to receive Christ. Some people simply pray a sincere prayer. Neither is more effective than the other. No matter what the expression the issue is that you believe in your heart and make a sound with your voice. When you do this with your heart engaged heaven is unlocked in your life. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1.    What are you praying about and believing for in your life, marriage, family, household, workplace, classroom, etc.?

Pastors and Leaders
    1.    People who are a covering for your life.
    2.    People who you are called to cover

As you pray through each name just declare God’s blessing over the name and pause for a few seconds to sense anything the Holy Spirit may want to prompt you to pray specifically over each individual. A simple declaration of God’s blessing over each person is the focus allowing me to bless and declare God’s blessing over a number of people. There will be times God will prompt you to pause at somebody’s name with specific things to pray. This is a consistent way to practice the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

A Daily Personal Focus:

T-R-U-S-T

Just to help focus on a daily rhythm that you can remember as you pray:

T: Thank You

The first thing is to turn our attention inward to recognize the Spirit’s presence and simply thank Him for His indwelling presence. I say, “Thank You, Spirit, for Your presence in my spirit.” Occasionally add affectionate phrases like, “I love You, Holy Spirit, and I enjoy Your presence.”

R: Release revelation of Your glory

Paul prayed that the Father of glory release the spirit of revelation to His people (Eph. 1:17) Moses prayed, “Please, show me Your glory” (Ex. 33:18). Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to see the realm of God’s glory that you may encounter more of His glory and heart.

U: Use me

Paul exhorted us to seek diligently to be used in the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:31; 14:1). The Spirit promised to release His gifts through every believer (Acts 2:17-21; 1 Cor. 12:7). Thank the Holy Spirit for His gifts and ask Him to release them to you in a greater measure. Ask Him to give impressions to you to bless people, that you may be a vessel of His presence to glorify Jesus.

S: Strengthen me

The Spirit will strengthen our inner man by touching our minds and emotions with the might of His presence. We can draw on His strength by thanking Him for the reality of His power that is already in our born-again spirit. Because the Spirit lives in us, the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, and so on—is in our spirit now. We can experience more of the power of this fruit by thanking Him that it is already in us.

16...to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man. (Eph. 3:16)

22The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. (Gal. 5:22-23)

T: Teach me

The Spirit is the Teacher who leads us into God’s will and ways so that we are able to live in partnership with God. We ask the Spirit to teach us about God’s Word, will, and ways by giving us wisdom and creative ideas for every area of our life, including how to steward our money, excel in a career, manage our time, prosper in relationships (in our family, church, workplace, etc.), function in ministry, and walk in purity and health (physically and emotionally). He will guide us in ways that help us walk in holiness, have health in our bodies, and so on.
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit...He will teach you all things... (Jn. 14:26)

STIRRING UP THE PROPHETIC:

Isa 50:4  The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens {me} morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.  (NAS)

8    The lion has roared-- who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken-- who can but prophesy?  (NIV)

1 Cor 4:1  So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.  (NIV)

Isa 54:13  All your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children's peace.  (NIV)

MUST BE A HEARER BEFORE YOU CAN BE A DOER.  HAVE TO SEE BEFORE YOU CAN SAY:

John 3:27  John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven.  (NAS)  Don’t grasp at what God’s not given you.  You prophesy in part = not your responsibility to speak something.  Only speak what God reveals and do not add to or take away.

James 1:22  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

1 Cor 2:13  This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  (NIV)

Jer 44:4  Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.  (KJV)

Exod 19:9  The LORD said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you." …

Isa 37:31  Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.  (NIV)

Jer 23:21-23  "I did not send {these} prophets, but they ran. I did not speak to them, but they prophesied.
22    "But if they had stood in My council, then they would have announced My words to My people, and would have turned them back from their evil way and from the evil of their deeds.
23    "Am I a God who is near," declares the LORD, "And not a God far off?  (NAS)

Ps 1:1-3  How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2    But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.
3    And he will be like a tree {firmly} planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.  (NAS)

Your first objective is to wake in His presence daily.  Out of this will flow God’s purposes.
