WHEN YOU PRAY: Possess

Research shows that communication is only 7% words and 93% action of our bodies. The old adage is so true, “Actions speak louder than words.”

James writes explaining how actions and behaviors reveal our faith. What do your actions and behaviors reveal about your faith?

James 2:22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. NIV

Faith is about possession while grace is about position. Distractions produce position without possession. You can live a Christian life having access to the treasures and rewards of heaven without ever possessing them.

2 Tim 2:1-10 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus… 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer… NIV

We were sinners needing a Savior but Jesus didn't die for us because we were sinners. He died for us because we are sons. Sonship is a position in Christ but inheritance is a possession.

Because we are sons and daughters God’s love never changes toward us!

1 Cor 6:12 I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. NIV

JESUS DIED MAKING SLAVES INTO SONS. CARELESS LIVING MAKES SONS INTO SLAVES.

Don’t let the enemy manipulate you into a lifestyle of disobedience that distracts you from your destiny sons and daughters of God!

Your anointing has a cost! Don’t spend your entire life merely experiencing what other people paid the price to explore.

Don't merely experience what God wants you to explore. Tracy and I have always made it a practice to explore strategically when visiting a resort or especially a place where people don’t speak English. We ask the hotel to arrange for an English speaking cab driving to pick us up for an entire morning. The driver always asks us where we want to go and we ask him to show us what we really ought to see beyond the typical tourist experience.

Resorts are great but that's an experience others are providing for us. We were born to explore! There is something in everyone that wants to discover our own experience.

WE NEED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THIS FIGHT Discover your destiny! God’s plans can be awakened in your life.

DISCUSSION GUIDE FOR COMMUNITY GROUP LEADERS

You may download a pdf of this week's guide here

Icebreaker: How can you describe your most creative moments in life?

Follow-up from Last Week’ s Discussion Question:
•    Last week we discussed what appetites have been cultivated in our lives and how we cultivated them. Then we talked about what we could do over this past week to further develop ourselves spiritually. How did this go for you this past week?

Research shows that communication is only 7% words and 93% action of our bodies. Actions always speak louder than words.

James 2:22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. NIV

Discussion Question:
•    Share a time when actions didn’t line up with words. Perhaps this was somebody else toward you or maybe you toward somebody else.
•    What actions in your life are producing the legacy you desire to leave?

2 Tim 2:1-10 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus… 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer… NIV

Discussion Question:
•    What in your life is lacking the kind of militant devotion to Christ Paul is talking about in this text?

Clearly God’s love for us never changes. Our position in his love is unwavering but our possession in our lives can be limited if we aren’t careful to live obedient lives.

1 Cor 6:12 I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. NIV

Discussion Question:
•    What steps can you take this week to express more meaningful devotion to your relationship with Christ? Let’s come back in our next meeting with an update on how we did with this goal.
