40 Days: IRRATIONALLY GIVING

IRRATIONALLY GIVING

How generous are you? What would people who know you say about your generosity? The goal for all of us who are part of the Destiny family is that we would be irrational about participating in the generous nature of God. Learning about and participating in the generous nature of God is very important to our lives, our legacy and our world.

Giving does not diminish our lives. It actually prospers our lives. Like a saturated sponge that cannot absorb more until it is squeezed out. God asks us to first give of what we have to then receive more of what he has in store.

Prov 11:25  A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. NIV

All of the world’s resources came from God. God owns and God loans it for about 80 years. We have nothing before we come into this world and we have nothing after we leave.

Tithing has a purpose in our personal lives:

Deut 14:23 The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God first in your lives. (TLB)

Tithing teaches us to put God first showing continually where our hearts are. We all want to have a heart for God. The reality is that we can if we are willing! Matthew 6 clearly teaches that our heart follows our treasure. The more we give to expand the Kingdom and help others the more our heart follows Jesus and is stirred to help others.

Our deepest sense of purpose is born from learning to be part of other people’s need.

The Bible says each of us and all of us are gifted on purpose.

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them… NKJV

The purpose of the gift is not to have it but to use it. Having a treadmill isn’t what helps you stay fit. Using the treadmill is the key. Having gifts from God isn’t what makes the world a better place. Using gifts from God is what matters.

With God’s guidance and wisdom we together will effectively leave our world a better place! There is a brand of Christianity emerging that is shifting from an attitude of knowing to an attitude of loving, serving and giving.

If we don't devote ourselves to the greater purpose of love we confine ourselves to a self-serving existence. We were born for more than that.

Paul references the transformed lives of the people as “the result of our ministry”. Money produces ministry when it’s placed in our hands!!

2 Cor 3:3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry… NIV
