On January 14, 2007, an ice storm hit Oklahoma and our priorities quickly changed from “Land to Expand” to an immediate need for recovery. The building housing our gym, kitchen and five of the eight high school classrooms was crushed under the weight of ice on the roof. The opportunity to see our 5-7 year building plan completed within the next few months is upon us right now. In order to see this happen, we need to raise $3 million over the next three years. A STRATEGY FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT
1) INITIATE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
As we expand our facilities and resources, we plan also to expand our impact in the community beyond the existing programs. A brain-friendly learning lab is already in developmental stages to help both children and adults understand learning differences and strengthen their skills. Other opportunities for training in computer skills, business skills, health and wellness will be made available to the community with new and improved facilities.
2) FACILITATE PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
Our school already has a fully developed athletic program that will only be enhanced by the expansion of the gymnasium and additional facilities. Destiny Christian School has a long-standing tradition of outstanding athletes - many of our graduates have received full athletic scholarships to top universities. Beyond sports, physical development is integrated into the classroom environment, including health and wellness classes for students and adults alike. We believe that physical development is an important aspect of learning and life.
3) STIMULATE ACTIVE LEARNING.
Research-based brain development at every age level is a trademark of education at Destiny Christian School. The new facilities have been designed with active learning in mind - movement, technology, the arts, smart classrooms, specialty labs, will provide the optimal educational environment for student success.
